Before you start emailing your customers, you need a strategy. Use these five tips to actually get that 4,000% ROI.

  1. Determine your strategy
  2. Start a dialogue
  3. Segment your email list
  4. Conduct A/B testing
  5. Retarget email marketing

Determine your strategy.

What are you trying to achieve through marketing? Whether you are introducing a new product or introducing your brand to the market, you need to have a specific and concrete product or service available to the consumer. The more concise your goal is, the more effective your email campaign will be.

Start a dialogue.

Email isn’t limited to 140 characters, so capitalize on content. Succinctly convince your consumer that they really do need your product. Use design to draw the customer to your call to action. You should keep your email short and only use one call to action per email. You want to draw in the reader but keep it short enough that they will not lose interest.

Segment your email list.

Sending the same email to every customer or lead might be the easiest way, but segmenting your list will yeild greater engagement. Take a look at the reason each client has given you their information. You want your customer to know why they are receiving the email. Research shows that relevant emails drive 18 times more revenue than a general mass email. Include personalized subject headers and their name if available. Your customer shouldn’t feel as if they are just one name on a long list.

Conduct A/B testing.

Unsure of which email format or message will work best? Use A/B testing. Write two emails and measure which leads to more traffic on your website. You can also use this for your landing page. Do more people make a purchase when the email link takes them to one page over another?

Retarget email marketing.

Retargeting an audience with display ads after they have read an email or emailing a website visitor after they have visited your site are two ways to use email retargeting.
